Get rid of tax evasion culture: NBR chief
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan on Wednesday urged the business community to get rid of the culture of tax evasion.

He said the revenue authorities want to bring change in the culture of evading tax through incentives to businessmen and various protective measures for local industries.
NBR Chairman made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a discussion on ‘Budget Talk 2018’ at the auditorium of North South University on Wednesday. The programme was organised by the young economists’ forum.

“Every people has the responsibility to contribute to the infrastructure development of the country and that is possible through paying tax,” said Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, who is also the Senior Secretary of Internal Resources Division (IRD).

 “The revenue collection target is set at Tk 2 lakh 96 thousand crore this year, hopefully we will reach the target,” he added.

NBR chairman said they have plan to widen the tax net through expanding the VAT net and increasing the number of taxpayers.

North South University Vice Chancellor Professor Atiqul Islam presided over the programme while North South University board of trustees chairman MA Hashem was the special guest.
