3 held with 75kg gold in Benapole
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives arrested three suspected smugglers along with 635 gold bars, weighing 75 kg, from bordering Shikarpur and Narikelbari areas on Friday.

The arrestees were identified as Md Mohiuddin, 35, Safura Khatun, 52, and Md Israfil.

Lt Col Ariful Haq, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion, said a team of the paramilitary force conducted a drive at Narikelbaria around 3:30am and arrested Mohiuddin along with 624 gold bars, weighing 72.759 kg.

Another BGB team arrested Safura and Israfil along with 11 gold bars weighing 2kg from Shikarpur border around 8 am, he said, adding that the  
 arrestees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

The seized gold worth Tk 36.73 crore was later deposited to Benapole Customs House.

Meanwhile, BGB members arrested a suspected smuggler along with five gold bars from Bhomra land port in Sadar upazila of Satkhira on Friday noon.

The arrestee was identified as Abu Huraira, son of Abdur Razzak of Laxmidari village in the upazila.
