BD airlines have better safety feature than Indias: Survey

The aviation and airlines safety features of Bangladesh are better than those of India, according to an international aviation safety survey.

The United Nations' International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) conducted the aviation-safety audit late last year, unveiling the scenario.

The report, released Tuesday, showed that India's air safety oversight score is lower than that of Bangladesh as well as Myanmar, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and North Korea in the Asia-Pacific region.

The only countries that rank below India are small and little known, such as Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Vanuatu and Samoa.

In the ICAO survey, India has slipped below its previous ranking of 66 per cent to 57 per cent.

Bangladesh outnumbered the global average score on six of the eight parameters. The country also scored higher than India in seven of the eight aviation safety parameters.

The parameters are: legislation, organisation, licensing, operations, airworthiness, accident investigation, air navigation services and aerodromes.
The ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme tries to identify whether countries have effectively and consistently implemented the critical elements of a safety-oversight system.
