Businesses from Hong Kong, China looking to invest in BD

Chinese businesses from Hong Kong are interested to invest in Bangladesh as they find the South Asian country an attractive place for investment.

A business delegation of Hong Kong showed the interest during their three-day visit here on the invitation of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) recently, according to a press release, reports UNB.

The delegation, led by President of CMAHK Dr. Dennis W.P. Ng, made the trip in search of investment opportunities as part of efforts under Chinese President Xi Jinping's signature Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

BIDA organised a seminar at a hotel in the capital where a "business match-making" session was held between Bangladeshi companies and businesses from Hong Kong. The "business match-making" programme was aimed at fostering strong trade relations between Hong Kong and Bangladesh.

BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam said this business trip will open up many opportunities between Hong Kong and Bangladesh.

"Besides manufacturing and export, Bangladesh has great opportunities in its domestic market, which will fully flourish within few years," said the CMAHK president.

During the trip, the members of the delegation also visited industrial zone in Gazipur district.

Ng praised the talented and 'focused' workforce of Bangladesh, that he witnessed firsthand on a visit to the Chinese-owned Unimas Sportswear factory in Gazipur along with journalists from Hong Kong.

The amount they can save on labour costs is still thought to be the most potent way to attract foreign investors.

The delegation also held a meeting with Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen during the stay here, besides other high officials of the government.

Hong Kong is a highly prosperous special administrative region of China.
