Md Afzal Karim has joined as chief executive officer and managing director of state owned Sonali Bank Limited on Sunday, said a press release.

Before joining, he paid tribute to the portrait of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the bank, the release said.

Finance ministry’s Financial Institutions Division issued a letter in this regard on August 14.

Prior to his new assignment, he served Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation as managing director. He had previously worked as deputy managing director of Sonali Bank and Bangladesh Krishi Bank.

He was awarded Integrity Award for financial year 2021-2022 in recognition of his honesty and efficiency.

He obtained BSC in mechanical engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology. He also obtained post graduate diploma in industrial management from Bangladesh Institute of Management and MBA (major in finance and banking)
