A Dhaka Court has acquitted City Bank Chairman Aziz Al Kaiser of all
charges in three cases filed by his ex-wife, Tabassum Kaiser.
Judge
of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka passed the order
recently after hearing the cases, said a press release.
The cases were filed against him on charges of breach of trust, cheating and forgery in December 2022.
Upon
careful consideration of the cases and a thorough assessment of the
allegations, the court initially directed the Detective Branch (DB) of
the police to investigate the cases.
Following a full inquiry,
the DB found the allegations to be baseless and submitted a conclusive
report in favour of Aziz Al Kaiser.
However, Tabassum Kaiser filed an objection petition against the DB's final report.
Consequently,
the court referred the matter to the Police Bureau of Investigation
(PBI) for a re-investigation. After an extensive review, the PBI also
failed to uncover any evidence supporting the charges against Mr.
Kaiser. And on April 17, they submitted their final report to the court.
Despite another objection petition from the plaintiff, the court
upheld the PBI's findings, accepting their report and ultimately
acquitting Aziz Al Kaiser in all three cases.
In response to the
verdict, Mr. Kaiser stated, "These were baseless allegations from the
outset, motivated by malicious intent to extract substantial sums from
me."
Kaiser also opined that there might be ulterior motives
behind his ex-wife's repeated submission of objection petitions, despite
multiple investigations finding no grounds for the charges against him.
Tabassum Kaiser, also one of the Directors of Partex Star
Particles Mills Ltd, filed the three separate fraud cases on December 28
in 2022.
According to the case statements, it was alleged that
Aziz and board of directors held a board meeting without the presence of
Tabassum Kaiser. The accused forged her signature and transferred all
her shares in the Partex Group in his name.
