In a circular on Thursday, the central bank’s Payment Systems Department also asked all banks as well as mobile financial services and point of sale services providers to ensure uninterrupted digital transactions.

It also asked them to ensure that customers could withdraw cash as per their demand on Eid.

Besides, it asked them to ensure necessary security measures, including constant vigilance at the ATM booths.

The central bank said two-factor authentication would have to be ensured for internet banking and online e-payment gateways apart from round-the-clock service at the points of sale.

It asked to run awareness programmes for merchants and customers to prevent counterfeiting.

The circular said appropriate measures should be taken to address risks, including ensuring the overall security of the systems used by banks during the Eid holidays.

It said banks should inform clients through text messages about digital transactions in addition to providing round-the-clock helpline services to stop customer harassment.
