Bangladesh netted $2.82 billion in remittance in just-concluded June, which is the third-highest monthly count in the country's history, according to the Bangladesh Bank (BB) data.
It recorded an 11 per cent monthly growth as remitters sent $2.54 billion in June last year, the data showed.
The country received $30.32 billion in remittance in the just-passed fiscal year. The receipt is $5.54 billion higher than the previous highest record of $24.77 billion registered in FY21.
According to the official data, the $450 billion economy earned $21.03 billion, $21.61 billion, and $23.91 billion in remittance in FY22, FY23, and FY24, respectively.
As expected, such rising remittance inflows keep bolstering the forex reserves, Bangladesh Bank Spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said.
Apart from stopping informal channels because of the close regulatory watch since the changeover in state power following last year's mass uprising, he said, the latest depreciation of the local currency against the US dollar following the implementation of the market-centric exchange regime encourages remitters to send money back home through official channels.
According to the central bank data, gross forex reserves rose to $31.68 billion and $26.66 billion in BB and IMF's BPM6 calculations, respectively, by the end of June 2025. |
